8th Grade: The Challenge of Heroism
This six weeks we will focus on the word "challenge" and examine heroes: in our personal lives, in literary work, and in the world at large. You will be introduced to the archetype of the hero's journey and will view various examples of heroes through that archetypal lens. After exploring heroism, we will then examine the challenges of society as we encounter texts in which individuals take great risks as they struggle to do what they think is right.

A hero is a person who thinks of others first, thinks of the consequences of all actions,and does not think of himself as a hero.A hero possess the right knowledge when it is needed, he/she has good morals and finds way to portray them to others.

I kow I'm not in 8th grade but my hero is my step dad Gary cause he has saved lifes before cause he is a cop. He puts his life on the line to save others.

i think of the word "hero" as someone who does things for others and put others first before them selves i have two heros beacause my mo and dad are my heros they have done everything for me and they have also done a lot for others. another hero is the people in the army beacause they are risking there lives for our freedom there putting there life on the line for us.The volunteer EMT fire fighter are heros too because the put out all our fires and they dont even get payed they keep our comunity safe.

Someone I think is a hero is my dad. He is the role model I look up to, he saves lives everyday he is at work being a firefighter. I think a hero is someone who will put there lives on the line, do everything in there power to keep others safe and not expect anything back, just doing it out of the kindness of their heart. The qualities I think hero's need to posses is honesty, loyalty, and kindness. Some of the biggest hero's are the men and woman that go and fight for our freedom, fight our fires, men and woman who risk their lives keeping our towns safe, I think those are what hero's are.

A Hero to me is someone I can trust and look up too. they help you out when you need them even though they might not always see you.My mom is my hero. She helps me when I need somebpdy to talk too.she also helps me whenever im down or upset.
