10th Grade: Justice

Everyone must deal with issues of justice. What is a fair consequence for breaking a rule in class?  Do students have freedom of speech in school?  Should the principal be allowed to search lockers randomly?  We have examined culture through many lenses.  One can define a culture by its beliefs about what is right and wrong--it's sense of justice.  Different cultures may have different standards and methods for arriving at justice, but every society has to ask the questions about what is right and fair.  This six weeks we will examine nonfiction, drama, and art from around the world and across time that ask the key questions: What is justice?

Blog about a time in which justice was served and a time it was not.  You may write about a personal experience or something you learned from the news.

A Tennessee man has been sentenced to 27 years in prison for killing his infant son because he bothered him during his video game. to me he should get more or have the death penalty because the little child could not protct him/her self and it was over video game people should take into more consideration of what a life truly is

  3. In 2008 15 year old gay student Larry King was murdered by one of his classmates. 14 year old Branden McInerney stole his fathers Colt 1911 went to school and shot King two times in the back of the head. When he was later questioned why he did it he stated that it was what he deserved. On September 21, 2011McInerney was sentenced to 25 years in a correctional facility for voluntary manslaughter and first degree murder. I believe justice was served here but a little harsh. Branden was only 14 and he didn't even know what he doing I think he should have been punished but not that badly. A time justice was not served was when George Zimmerman 900,000 dollar bail was paid. Zimmerman was guilty of murder on two blind ladies. I think they should have put him in prison for quite a while

  4. Earlier today a white male in a white van was driving somewhere in the metroplex. There was a little girl walking home from school and he exposed himself to her. The girl saw everything and ran away screaming. this is an example of a case of injustice. The little girl did not deserve to witness this or experience it at all. No girl or boy deserves this. It's not right. She will more than likely remember this for her whole life and it's not fair. That man deserves to get punished for some sort of public indeceny!

An example of where justice is served is when people get sentenced to go to prison and or jail if they kill someone while driving and being intoxicated or under some influence at the same time. If in this process they harm someone or kill them they need to get punished! They made the choice to get intoxicated and start driving. They have no normal judgement as they would if completelly sober. Therefore they deserve any punishment they are to recieve. They are not only harming themselves but everyone else on the road when they enter their vehicle. Nobody deserves to get their innocent life taken away by something liike that.

  5. Justice was not servred when Kasey Anthony was let go after being the suspect in her own daughters killing. They should have done alot more research to try and get to the bottom of her daughters murder.
A time when justice was served was when pro athlete Micheal Vick was put in prison for illegally fighting dogs. But when he got out he was brought back into the NFL for a second chance.

  6. Justice was served in the movie "The Dark Knight" when the joker was arrested for killing and robbing a bank.

Justice was not served when stephan Lawrence was stabbed at a bus stop. He was stabbed several times by a gang. The police had several tips that they are the ones that did it but did not have enough evidence to support them. The gang member were set free!
